ANZAC DAY MEMORIAL 25/04
Hilary attended a dawn service for ANZAC Day with our friends. These services were happening all over. We went to the one local at Bulimba. It had been heavy rain the day and night before and was still raining when we left at 05:15 to head to the service. Lots of families and service personnel present. Young people from the local school (Cadets I think?) took the roles of Master of Ceremonies, singing the New Zealand and Australian National Anthems, played the Last Post on bugle. Local dignitaries lay wreaths at the Cenotaph and then members of local organisations were invited to lay theirs too. It was quite moving and all the more so as there was a piper playing also. I felt honoured to have shared this experience.
Surfers paradise (Day 1)
The rain continued, so it was a very wet and miserable journey to Surfers Paradise. Although it was grey and miserable, the view was pretty spectacular.
By comparison this is the view at sunrise and on a sunny morning.
In the evening we had arranged to meet up with our friend Dan for dinner along with another parkrun friend of his Robbie Hawkswell.
Robbie is one of the Co Event Directors at South Toowoomba parkrun and once he knew Hilary was going to complete her v600 the following Saturday, he gently persuaded her that his event would make a big splash of it and so now we have changed all our plans!!
The food was way too raw for my likings (why did I go for Lamb?) but the company made it a very enjoyable evening.
